OUR history
The Northeastern Black Student Association was founded in 1976.
For 48 strong years, the NBSA has aimed to:
-
Explore the best ways to come together and create a potent voice within the Northeastern University community
-
Improve the relationship between the student community and the African American Institute
-
Create a fruitful and collaborative connection with the Africana Studies Department
-
Be a medium for productive, honest, and meaningful dialogues focusing on a range of issues that affect all of us as students and part of the African diaspora
The founders of the Northeastern Black Student Association saws the necessity to embrace those who identify with the Diaspora, those who wish to learn about the Diaspora, and most importantly those who are willing to acknowledge, denounce, and challenge the inequality of opportunities that many around the world have faced and continue to endure, due to their connection to the Diaspora.

The NBSA would like to assist in the re-education process that so often takes place during one's tenure at an institution of higher learning. This re-education must deal with a better understanding of self, as related to historical accuracy, and it must address current challenges. Yet, the NBSA believes students must also build stronger inter-ethnic relationships, and understanding, to aid in the overall struggle for unity, respect, and fairness.
As it pertains to Northeastern University, the Northeastern Black Student Association hopes to help students become more involved in University representative bodies. The NBSA seeks to augment the voice of students of color and work with to strengthen the influence of students' voice with the administration of the University. In conclusion, the NBSA has always sought to fulfill the need for unity within the Black community on campus, and will continue to pursue the best methods for long lasting success.
